Thank you for your patience and support as we have had to modify sanitation collection services during these unprecedented times. It is our goal to provide you exceptional service as we work to keep West Columbia clean and safe. We appreciate the effort many of our residents have made to beautify their homes. At the same time, we have experienced a significant increase in the amount of waste collected. In April of 2019, the Sanitation Department picked up 323 tons of yard trash and 408 tons of household garbage and recycling. In April 2020, the West Columbia Sanitation Department collected over 478 tons of yard trash and 549 tons of household garbage and recycling. That is a 33% increase in yard trash and a 27% increase in garbage and recycling over last year.
Consequently, we are modifying collection routes based on lessons we’ve learned during the Work or Home order. Yard trash will be collected on designated Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. Household garbage will be collected on designated Tuesdays or Thursdays. Recycling will be collected every other week on the same day as household garbage.
Beginning the week of May 25, 2020, we will resume recycling collection for all residences. Please be sure to only place recycling materials in your recycling bin. To better provide timely, reliable, efficient service to you, we are modifying our sanitation, recycling, and yard trash schedules. The new collection schedule is listed below.
