Bring Us Your Beer: West Columbia Passes Ordinance to Boost Creative Development

By April 26, 2016Headlines

The City of West Columbia has adopted an Artisan Manufacturing Ordinance to boost business opportunities. City Council believes that the addition of artisan manufacturing compliments the City’s business districts and anticipates it will fill spaces along State and Meeting Streets that are ready to thrive. Craft breweries, micro-distilleries, craftsmen, artists and jewelers are all businesses considered to be artisan manufacturing. Building on the creativity of new development such as Frame of Mind, the Hemi Food Truck Court and the soon to be completed Art on State project, the City hopes to encourage the creativity of entrepreneurs to bring unique and vibrant ideas to the City.

“We want to welcome these artisans into our community. The idea is to have pedestrian access to these businesses along State and Meeting Streets and create a synergy of uses”, said Director of Planning and Zoning Wayne Shuler.
