City of West Columbia Increases Size of Recycling Roll Carts

The City of West Columbia is increasing the size of their recycling roll carts to 95-gallons. With the increase in size of the container, the city will now pick up recycling every other week. Distribution of the new carts will start next week and will continue for the next four weeks. Each residence will receive one 95-gallon blue recycling roll cart. The scheduled start dates for each sanitation route are as follows:

Monday—October 24, 2016
Tuesday—November 15, 2016
Wednesday—October 26, 2016
Thursday—November 17, 2016
Friday—October 14, 2016

Director of Public Works Jamie Hook said, “The goal of the new carts is to encourage residents to increase the amount they recycle, save city resources, and reduce litter that ends up on the roads and in storm drains.”
Residents will have the option of keeping their existing bins and carts, however, they can be picked up by the Sanitation Department by leaving them empty by the side of the road on the same day as recycling pick-up. For more information, please call West Columbia Sanitation at 803.791.1880.

Issued at 4:00 PM on October 14, 2016.
