City of West Columbia Christmas Tree Disposal Information

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (January 3, 2018) – The City of West Columbia has numerous options for disposing of your Christmas tree. It can be dropped off at a location below or the City of West Columbia Sanitation and Recycling Department will begin pick up the week of January 15th, 2018.

In partnership with the Lexington County Stormwater Consortium and Keep the Midlands Beautiful Grinding of the Greens program, the following locations will accept your Christmas Tree until January 11, 2018:

Keep the Midlands Beautiful and the City of West Columbia ask participants to follow these guidelines:
• Remove all lights, tinsel, and ornaments from the tree, and remove the tree from the stand.
• Drop off trees only. Wreaths, garland, and other greenery are not accepted.
• Remove tree from bag. Also remove, any string, wire, or ties on the tree.

Free mulch made from the recycled trees will be available to the public at the following two locations on Saturday, January 13, from 8:30 AM until the mulch runs out:
o South Carolina State Farmers Market (3483 Charleston Highway, West Columbia)
o Seven Oaks Park (200 Leisure Lane; near the intersection of St. Andrews & Piney Grove roads)

The City of West Columbia Sanitation and Recycling Department will begin Christmas Tree pick-up the week of January 15th and continue through January 26th. All trees will be recycled through the SCDNR Fish Habitat Program. Reminder! Remove all decorations, lights, etc. Do not put the tree in a bag.
