West Columbia Art on State Wall Gets a New Mural

West Columbia (August 2, 2017 at 4:05 PM) – The City of West Columbia’s Art on State Wall, behind Terra and 116 Espresso and Wine Bar at 423 Meeting Street, has been transformed with new art created by Karl L. Larsen. The new mural is inspired by his art exhibition, O D O M E T E R, opening Friday, August 4, 2017, at Frame of Mind, 140 State Street, West Columbia, SC and running through August 29th.

Karl L. Larsen stated, “I feel it is imperative to help build a culture around local art as West Columbia aims to transform its River District. The mural on Meeting Street was just the cherry on top. Showing what can be done over here with support from the City and local businesses like Frame of Mind and many others along State Street can shape a unique identity for West Columbia moving forward.”

After dining or while shopping on State and Meeting Streets, view the collaborative art project, take your picture, and post it on social media with the hashtags #artonstate #seemeonstate #wcolasc.

Karl L. Larsen’s newest series of artworks, The Odometer Collection, is derived from a 75-day, 14,000-mile road trip across North America. Inspired in part by the organized spectacle of cities like Austin, Ciudad Juárez, Seattle, Victoria and Vancouver, this work is also a very personal examination of the empty spaces in between. Though Larsen documented his journey with photos and video, he painted from memory, conveying his impressions of vastly different landscapes, waterscapes and skies to canvas. The Odometer Collection is Larsen’s remembrance – a reconstruction – of poignant moments of peaceful solitude and self-exploration among the geological and man-made wonders across North America.
